VIDEO: See the Forest Glen ducks' new, huge home

THE Forest Glen ducks have a big new home, and they're sharing it with 80 other furry housemates.

The 25 muscovy ducks were removed by Gladstone Regional Council last Friday after complaints about road safety, health and environmental concerns.

But on the same day, Darts Creek property owner Reg Gilbert came to the rescue, agreeing to care for the friendly ducks on his 283 acres of land.

It was Mr Gilbert's daughter, visiting her dad from Townsville, who was asked by her wildlife carer friend if she would adopt the ducks.

"My daughter said to me, 'We are getting the ducks and that's it'," Mr Gilbert laughed.

"I want to assure people that they are not locked up and are at home here.

"There's about seven dams around the place so they aren't short of water."

The Observer visited the property yesterday and was greeted by a group of welcoming animals, followed by the trail of happy ducks.

"I have eight horses, a dog, five pups, the ducks, a handful of young chicks and 64 cattle," Mr Gilbert said.

"The ducks just do their own thing. They come straight to you and are so tame.

"There's one main duck that leads the way."

Mr Gilbert, a retiree, has lived on his property near Ambrose on and off for 35 years.

"I like the peace and quiet and I enjoy being around animals," he said.
