Drunk man threatened to burn down Miriam Vale pub

AN IRATE drinker has been banned from the Miriam Vale Hotel after he threatened to burn it down and fight the publican.

Apologetic about his bad behaviour on the night of May 21, Dominic Lee Watkins pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to a public nuisance charge.

Prosecutor Sgt Merrilyn Hoskins said Watkins had been "grossly intoxicated", yelling and shouting threats to hotel patrons, refusing to leave and threatening to fight the publican.

"He threatened to burn the hotel down," she said.

Magistrate Penelope Hay said such threats must be taken seriously.

She fined Watkins $500 and banned him from the hotel for three months.

"I apologise. I was very intoxicated," Watkins said.
