Driving instructors: no to S-plate
AS A driving instructor for the past seven years, Mark Collette has seen the very best and worst on our roads.
When it comes to the 'S-plate' debate, Mark thinks it would be discrimination.
"I know a lot of really great senior drivers", he said.
"It's highway driving and roundabout driving that lets them some of the older drivers down."
Mark foresees many additional problems if 'S plates' were to become mandatory.
"People already tailgate and target 'P-platers' and learner drivers and I think the same thing would happen with seniors," he said.
"I do however think that people should undergo a written test every five years."
As far as when to hang up the keys, Mark said it comes down to the individual.
"I don't think it's needed at 65. At 65, you're retired but you're not staying put."
