Drivers put cars to the test at Benaraby drag races

SCREECHING tyres, plumes of smoke and seriously fast cars, it was all action at Benaraby Raceway for round 5 of the CQDRA Championships on Saturday.

Central Queensland Drag Racing Association (CQDRA) President Glen William said overall the event went well although the numbers were slightly down for competitors and spectators.

He said drivers from as far away as Townsville and Brisbane took part in the drags.

"Local driver Brett Kelly from Brett Kelly Automotive ran a personal best 7.883," he said.

Rockhampton driver Russell Mackay took his 1963 Corvette Stingray to compete in the Supa Comp class and did the fastest quarter mile at the meet in 6.90 at 201mph.

The next CQDRA round is on July 19.
