Driver has suspected spinal injuries following Nebo crash

A TRUCK driver was trapped in his vehicle for more than an hour after a crash near Nebo.

The 49-year-old male driver suffered suspected spinal injuries in the smash and was transferred to Mackay Base Hospital where he arrived in a stable condition.

The RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter received the call to attend the scene of the truck accident on the Peak Downs Hwy, about 10km east of Nebo, at 1.15pm yesterday.

The driver had been travelling west when his truck left the road and struck a tree.

He was the sole occupant of the truck.

It took emergency crews more than an hour to free the Townsville man.

A police media spokeswoman said emergency services were advised of the crash about 12.50pm.

"The crash was a single semi-trailer truck crash," the spokeswoman said.

"The male driver was conscious and was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital for further observation."

The spokeswoman said she did not believe there were major disruptions on the Peak Downs Hwy.

She said the location of the truck crash was off the road and she believed it was a difficult spot to access.

The man was transported by helicopter because of his suspected spinal injuries.
