Driver trapped alone in car for hours

POLICE from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the cause of a single vehicle crash which left a man trapped in his car for several hours.

The crash occurred on the D'Aguliar Hwy at Gilla, between Blackbutt and Yarraman some time between 2-3am this morning.

A 21-year-old male from western QLD was travelling south east on the highway.

His vehicle left the road and hit a tree, according to a Forensic Crash Unit spokesperson.

He was later released from the vehicle by Queensland Fire Service officers and transported by paramedics to the Nanango Hospital at around 6.30am.

He was then flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment for leg and head injuries.

There were delays to traffic in the area with SES conducting traffic control near the scene.

Police from the Forensic Crash Unit attended and investigations will be conducted into the circumstances leading up to the crash.

While the circumstance of this crash are still under investigation, police are appealing to everyone to be mindful of fatigue and to ensure that regular rest stops are made and that you are rested for longer journeys.
