Trying to avoid airport parking fee costs driver $5000

A GLADSTONE man has received the largest parking ticket he will ever have to pay after he forgot his wallet.

Following a trip to Brisbane on September 6, Julian Andrew Rose embarked on a flight home to Gladstone.

But when he arrived, he realised he had left his wallet at his girlfriend's house back in Brisbane.

This meant Rose had no money to pay for his long-term car parking fees.

Being new to town, Rose felt he didn't know anyone well enough to call and ask for help, so he decided to try and drive around the boom gate.

His attempt to try to leave without paying resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damage to the boom gate and Rose ended up before the courts.

Rose appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one count of wilful damage.

He was fined $900 on top of more than $4000 restitution, with his conviction recorded.
