Drive-in movie night returns for second try

CQ Starlight Cinemas will host its second drive-in movie night in Gladstone on Saturday.

Organiser Ben Dyer is hoping for a lot of support from the community, after the first drive-in movie night attracted a lower than expected crowd, following the event being cancelled twice.

The Pirates Band of Misfits (PG) will screen at 6.30pm, followed by Elysium (MA15+) at 8.30pm.

The event is being held at the Gladstone Showgrounds, with entry off Tank St.

Gates will be open 30 minutes before the first movie and 15 minutes before the second.

Cost is $20 per vehicle per movie.

There will be a snack bar operating on site, and a working FM car radio is required.

After last month's event, Mr Dyer said while Gladstone had expressed a great interest in the drive-in coming to town, the numbers had not justified the trip.

"Gladstone people have been telling us for a long time how excited they are about us coming to town, but the numbers weren't there to support us," he said at the time.

"We can't continue to include Gladstone if they don't show up."

Residents said a lack of advertising about the event, the choice of movies and the two previous cancellations had played a part in their decisions not to support the first drive-in movie night.
