Back to the future as drive-in movies return
LUKE Hampson and his friend Taj Andrews, both 8, couldn't contain their excitement over the first drive-in movie screening next month.
CQ Starlight cinema is back and this time it's for the return of the drive-in at the Gladstone Showgrounds on Saturday, October 11.
The project has been 12 months in the making, with some delays finding a suitable venue.
Owner Ben Dyer said there would be a session at 6.15pm, rated G or PG, followed by an 8.30pm M-rated movie.
"We want to provide a real variety so you can get a slightly different experience each time," he said.
"It is important that we show a range of movies, including nostalgic movies that parents can rediscover with their children."
Mr Dyer said the aim of the drive-in was to offer people a difference experience.
Taj and Luke were excited about watching movies from the car.
"I'm going to bring my whole bed," Taj said. "It's like chilling out in bed, but in the car."
"I'm bringing lollies as well," Luke said.
Alana Mariner, 10, and her sister Lexi, 5, already knew what they wanted to watch.
"Frozen!" Alana said.
"I want to see movies with princesses," Lexi said.
Their mum Claire said she thought the drive-in cinema was a great idea.
"It's perfect for summer," she said. "You can keep the air-con on in the car."
Josh Timmermins, 7, was excited by the big screen too.
"I want to see Spiderman because he can climb," he said.
