Doubts over Rio mugging claims

TWO American Olympic swimmers who claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint were escorted off a plane in Rio yesterday by Brazilian authorities as doubts arose about the veracity of their report.

Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentzre, Ryan Lochte and James Feigen said last week they were held up by muggers posing as police as they left a party in Rio.

Feigen had earlier been taken into custody at the airport. Lochte (pictured) is believed to have returned to the US before a Brazilian judge ordered their questioning, saying their story was full of inconsistencies.
