Dodge Challenger looks set for Australian arrival

WATCHING the success of the Ford Mustang looks likely to inspire some more American muscle wearing the Dodge badge.

The Dodge Challenger could make its way Down Under if Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia is successful in making a business case for the fire-breather.

With General Motors unable to confirm the Camaro will become available in right-hand drive for Holden, the dynamic Dodge could become a certain starter in Australia.

FCA director of product strategy Zac Loo said they were extremely interested in the Challenger, and the four-door Charger.

Given the appetite for V8 muscle here, among those to be most sought-after would be the monstrous 527kW SRT Hellcat derivatives.

If FCA is successful, the Charger could be here as soon as next year. Although Aussies may have to wait under the next generation of those vehicles – not due until 2018.

Ford has been inundated with orders for its Pony cars. Wait times had blown out, which forced the manufacturer to source 2000 extra vehicles to fill the void.

The Mustang surpassed 2016 sales predictions, with 1500 more orders placed than expected.

Those who have patience and are willing to wait until after June next year will be able to get 2017 model vehicles. They will be equipped with and upgraded SYNC 3 stereo system, which features Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Ford Applink 3.0.
