Diversifying the Brand

COUNTRY and Western singer Adam Brand will race at Lucas Oil Lismore Speedway tomorrow night and Saturday night.

The Mo Award winner, who is a speedway fanatic, will be compete in the Legend Cars category.

When he gets the opportunity to take time out from his hectic entertainment schedule he has often competed in speedway events.

The fixture also will feature an appearance by the flame-throwing Jet Cars that will provide a spectacular "melt-down" demonstration as part of their show.

Brand's appearance in Lismore this weekend was organised by promoter David Lander and Legend Cars Australia chief executive John Dennehy, who has provided a car for Brand to drive on both nights.

"It is quite a coup to get Adam to race in Lismore," Lander said yesterday.

"Adam has a close affinity with speedway and is a keen racer who loves to jump behind the wheel when time allows."

Earlier this season Brand drove a Legend Car at Valvoline Raceway in Sydney.

He grew up in WA and often attended the Claremont Showground Speedway where his passion for motor sport began.

One of Brand's most popular hits, Dirt Track Cowboys, is dedicated to speedway.

The singer also spent several years racing V8 utes and even turned a wheel regularly in the early 2000s in Ford Falcon V8s.

In addition, he raced in the 2011 Eastern Creek Six Hour enduro in Sydney and his team took out the class driving a Suzuki Swift.

Brand will compete in qualifying heats and feature events on both nights.

Another highlight of the two-night fixture will be the running of the first 100-lap event held in the country for Wingless Sprintcars.

The inaugural Australian Wingless Sprintcar Grand Prix has attracted 40 entries with drivers travelling from as far as WA to compete.

Yellow light caution periods will count as racing laps during the endurance event, while pit stops on the infield are optional.

The big variety card over both nights also will feature racing for National Four Cylinder Sedans and AMCA Sedans.

Gates will open on both days at 3pm, with racing from 6pm.
