District sailors help with win in Cananda

LOCAL sailors Marina and Ray Hobbs have tasted success in Canada without even stepping on board a boat, assisting with the dreams of Brisbane sailor Peter Beard.

Racing in the International Federation of Disabled Sailing World Championships, Beard asked the Gladstone sailors to help him while racing in Halifax, Canada.

With Marina Hobbs spreading the word of Beard's ambitions heading into the championships, husband Ray was helping with boat logistics such as rigging, tuning and shipping.

After having mixed results in the races at Halifax, Beard and his crew members Rachael Cox finally broke through and won a race on August 23.

Upon returning to shore, the Hobbs' were part of a cheer for Beard of "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi".
