Dishing up good service
THE fickle business of takeaway food is competitive, cut throat and excessively dominated by corporate competition.
To get noticed in front of commercial entities like McDonald's, KFC and Eagle Boys is a fight that many loose.
But for Gladstone local Helen McHugh the only competition that shakes her self-confidence is those outlets with good food and good service.
“People want good, reasonably priced food, but most of all they want good friendly service to complement good food,” Helen said.
Helen is referring to her new shop Totally Roasted, which opens today at the Sunvalley shopping centre in Kin Kora.
“I have been thinking about opening a store for a while and I decided to get it started in line with the growth that Gladstone is now experiencing and I also think Gladstone needs a change,” Helen said.
“We are doing roast meals, burgers and a nice variety of food from breakfast to lunch and dinner.”
Helen said this was the first time she had stepped into the food industry and it had been a huge learning curve.
“The little bits like insurance, signs and licensing have been a real eye opener,” she said.
“It's been a big learning curve but it's all gone pretty smoothly, and most people have been very helpful.
“With all going well over the next 12 months I would like to have another store down at Tannum/Boyne because people have mentioned that they could use another outlet down there.”
Totally Roasted is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8am to 8.30pm.
