Direct flight boost

THE newest hotel manager in town says direct flights from Gladstone to Sydney will be a boost for the region.

Mercure Gladstone general manager Gavin Hocking yesterday welcomed news QantasLink will fly direct from Sydney to Gladstone beginning in March.

The new Mercure Hotel, at Yaralla Sports Club, has been partly opened since August and has been close to capacity. Mr Hocking said the amount of engineering and construction in the region was reflected in business performance.

"Even in soft opening phase, the hotel was virtually full Monday to Friday with guests ranging from top industry executives to surveyors and those in town for general business," he said.
