Dignitaries arrive in memory of Phillip Hughes

GREATS of the cricket world, sporting personalities, celebrities and politicians have begun to arrive on the Coffs Coast to pay tribute to the late Phillip Hughes in his hometown of Macksville today.

The town is preparing to host the largest public funeral since the death of World War II Victoria Cross recipient Frank Partridge in 1964.

Family spokesman James Henderson said while a large contingent of cricket personalities were expected at the funeral the family welcomed local residents to turn out at Macksville High School to pay their respects from 2pm.

Phillip Hughes' father Greg and brother Jason will serve as pall bearers, along with Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke, Corey Ireland, Mitchell Lonergan, Matthew Day, Aaron Finch and Tom Cooper.

Cricket Australia said the Australian Test squad would be joined by the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars at the funeral.

Other notable attendees will include Mark Taylor, Sir Richard Hadlee, Brian Lara, Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri, Dean Jones, Shane Warne, Mike Hussey, Ricky Ponting, Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist, Justin Langer, Simon Katich, Steve Waugh, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Mark Waugh, Neil Maxwell, Gavin Robertson.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, New South Wales Premier Mike Baird MP, Minister for Sport Peter Dutton and Federal Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker will also be in attendance.

Channel Nine will broadcast the service live from Macksville from 1.30pm.

ABC will provide radio coverage and Cricket Australia will stream the service online, through its phone app and on screens at the SCG, Adelaide Oval, Blundstone Arena, Federal Square in Melbourne, the Gabba, Southbank in Brisbane and at the WACA.
