Couple celebrates 60th wedding anniversary at yacht club

GRAHAM and Pam Wriede celebrated 60 years of marriage at the Gladstone Yacht Club on Saturday.

The yacht club and the Grand Hotel were their favourite places to visit when they first met.

The pair was married in 1954 and in 1955 set sail for England, where they both worked in London.

Mr Wriede was a dentist and Mrs Wriede a receptionist at Hutchinsen's Publishers.

The Wriedes loved sightseeing and stayed in the United Kingdom for two years before dropping their anchor for good in Gladstone, in 1957.

They raised three children, Nick, Jon and Anne, and have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Daughter Anne Dubois said 23 members of the immediate family gathered and enjoyed the celebration on Saturday.

"It went really well," she said. "We had a special cake for their 60th, and they all really enjoyed themselves."

Family came from as far as Canberra to join the celebrations.

The group enjoyed family memories, including holidays at their family beach shack in Seventeen Seventy.
