Devoted goal sneak reaches milestone

CLUBMAN Clint Wilkie will pull up his green and white socks for his 50th senior match this weekend with every Gladstone Mudcrab behind him.

Wilkie has been playing for the Muddies Aussie rules team for 16 years starting when he was 10.

The Brisbane Lions supporter and Darwin-born goal sneak has taken six years to reach his 50th game.

"My best game was this year against the Brothers," Wilkie said.

"I kicked a goal and got a few touches."

Wilkie had only been on the ground for a minute before he kicked that goal.

"The ball bounced to me in the square. I got tackled and snapped it through the goals," he said.

"While I was on the ground I screamed out celebrating."

Playing in the reserves, he hoped he would be chosen in the team to play in the finals, but wouldn't mind if he wasn't.

"I just like the guys down here and love being at the club," he said.

"I think I have missed one or two training sessions all year due to work commitments, so I think I'll get a run in the finals."

Watch Wilkie play against the Yeppoon Swans at Clinton Oval on Saturday at 12.30pm.
