It took more than five hours to find fatal crash victim

IT TOOK more than five hours to find a 65-year-old man involved in a fatal car crash along Afterlee Rd, north of Kyogle, on Sunday.

Richmond LAC Inspector Doug Conners said the incident occurred about 8.30am, but the alarm wasn't raised until the man's partner reported him missing about 1.30pm, when he didn't come home from work.

"The man finished a night shift and was travelling home from work," Insp Conners said.

He said the man was driving a white Toyota Landcruiser wagon.

Police searched the Afterlee Rd area and located the vehicle down an embankment beside the road.

The body of the driver, who has yet to be formally identified, was found in the car.

Initial police investigations indicated the Landcruiser crossed to the wrong side of the road and down the embankment, before hitting trees.

Insp Conners said police were appealing for witnesses who may have seen the Toyota before the crash to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
