No happy ending for man who stole from massage place

LEE Raymond Syphers walked into Ren's Chinese Relaxation Massage on January 15, determined to create his own happy ending.

Peering over the front counter, Syphers spotted a black pencil case containing a wad of cash.

That temptation was too much for the recovering drug addict, who swiftly pocketed the cash.

The owners of the Mellefont St business then called police, who intercepted Syphers's vehicle around the corner in Herbert St.

The stolen $230 was found in Syphers's pants and pockets, and he admitted taking it to buy groceries.

Because of Syphers's lengthy drug, criminal and traffic history, Magistrate Penelope Hay sentenced him to six months jail, but with immediate release on parole.

The court heard Syphers had recently been granted full custody of his 10-year-old son, a fact, Ms Hay said, "I can't pretend doesn't concern me".
