Dear Hollywood, it's time for zero tolerance for drugs

Dear Hollywood.

You've claimed our Aussie hero Heath Ledger.

And earlier, you claimed James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.

Most recently, you claimed Philip Seymour Hoffman.

And by the looks of things, there will be more to follow, unless you make some changes.

How long does it take for an industry which produces idols for young and old to realise it has a poisonous environment and needs to do something about it?

Sporting codes have made a move to get rid of the poison, so why not Hollywood?

How hard is it to incorporate a zero policy in the industry? Surely actors' contracts are fairly standardised like most employment contracts?

Do you think Hollywood should implement a zero tolerance policy for drugs?

This poll ended on 28 February 2014.

Yes, Heath's death was different to many others who have had their lives claimed by drugs. Heath died of an overdose of prescription medication.

But a person would hope that if Hollywood did enforce a zero tolerance policy, the drug tests can be incorporated to pick up on over usage of sleeping medication and the other prescription drugs Heath was taking.

Many of these deaths could be avoided.

List of movies stars who have died from a drug overdose

  • James Dean
  • Marilyn Monroe
  • Elvis Presley
  • Heath Ledger
  • John Belushi
  • Whitney Houston
  • Corey Moneith
  • Corey Haim
  • Anna Nicole Smith

Many of their bizarre behaviour breakdowns could be avoided if drugs and over usage of certain prescription medications were detectable.

What message do we send our kids and future generations if one of the biggest industries in the world doesn't put a stamp on bad, unhealthy behaviour?

If only a zero tolerance for drugs was incorporated, dear Hollywood.

And don't get me started on the music industry - Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Michael Hutchence, Johnny O'Keefe, Hank Williams and Amy Winehouse.
