Pupil recovering from disease

CHANEL College student Lauren O'Sullivan is recovering from meningococcal disease in a Brisbane hospital.

The Year 10 student was three days in a coma and on a life support system after contracting the deadly disease last week.

Queensland Health yesterday released a statement to the Observer stating that Lauren was in a stable condition in the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane.

Chanel College and Queensland Health are working closely together to ensure the welfare of the school community.

Several cases of meningococcal disease have been reported in Gladstone in recent months, but Queensland Health says it has no concerns with regard to the transmission of the disease.

Chanel College said the thoughts and prayers of the community were with the student and the family at this time.
