De facto barters for sex with child

A PROSERPINE man manipulated his de facto partner's young daughter into performing sexual acts on him through a sick bartering system.

He would give her money, gifts and let her stay home from school "to curry sexual favours the (victim) felt obliged to give".

Crown prosecutor Matt Hynes said the girl felt the man, aged 36 to 38 at the time, was "treating her as (his) own private doll".

Now 40, the man first had sex with her when she was 13, and maintained a sexual relationship with the girl for about 17 months between 2009 and 2011, the District Court in Mackay heard.

The girl described it as "just an everyday thing". Two sex acts have been described as rape because of the man's forceful behaviour, the court heard.

Certain sex acts, which occurred in the shower of the family home, were labelled "brazen" because they happened while the girl's mother, who was an invalid, was in the house, the court heard.

"There is no doubt that you used these corrupt means in gaining sexual gratification from a young girl... in circumstances where she saw you as a father figure... (and) in circumstances where you were in a position of trust," Judge Richard Jones said.

"You used bribes... to encourage the (girl) to carry out various sexual acts that she was required to perform.

"(It) extended to the stage where the complainant felt indebted to you."

Shockingly, the girl is a victim of previous sexual abuse, which resulted in a man being jailed in 2006. The man was aware of this at the time of his offending, the court heard.

The man pleaded guilty to maintaining a sexual relationship with a child, rape and indecent treatment of a child under 16.

He was jailed for eight years and will be eligible for parole after serving three years.
