David is the man of impulse

SAILING: David Mann did what he does best.

And that is to lead the Impulse fleet to the finish line at the Impulse State Championships.

Last weekend Mann lead his Gold Digger senior category boat to the finish line as the sailor with the least amount of errors and, therefore, points and he celebrated the night in style.

He finished ahead of Andrew Turnbull-Miller (Boaty McBoatface) and Joshua Young on Slipknot.

Event co-organiser and competitor Peter Mann, David's brother, said despite conditions windier than forecast, racing was keen.

"The fleet was spread, but there were some close races," Peter said.

"They predicted 10-15 knot winds but the reality was that the wind was 15-20 knots from the north on Saturday and the east on Sunday."

David Harrison won the Master division on Cosmosoarus. Keith Biers took out the Grand Master class on Sapphire.

It was a Mann family affair when David and Peter's dad Charlie Mann was too good in the aptly-named The Clinic in the Great Grand Master category.

Meanwhile, the Port Curtis Sailing Club will have a Discover Sailing Day on Sunday, October 22 from 9am.
