Belly dancing a gentle exercising option for all women

IT IS gentle exercise, which increases your flexibility and balance, and can also allow you to dance through pregnancy.

Melanie Achillies is beginning a new term of her belly dancing classes, Veils of Arabia.

The experienced dancer of 15 years said there was no need for stereotypes for this style of dance.

"It's good for all women of all ages and sizes," she said.

Ms Achillies said the exercise was great for pregnant women, because it worked the pelvic floor.

"I've danced through two pregnancies," she said.

The classes are based on the Saiidi style of dance, also touching on Spanish fusion and Bollywood.

"I think people really enjoy it because it gives you a sense of femininity," she said.

Veils of Arabia beginner belly dance classes will start in Gladstone on Tuesday, April 22, at 6.20pm at the QCWA Hall and in Benaraby at 6.30pm on Monday, April 28, at the Benaraby Progress Hall.
