Dancers plan for ballet
THE Young Dancers company in Gladstone is gradually moving closer to its performance of The Nutcracker.
Ten-year-old Jazlyn Alexander has been doing ballet for five years and has loved every moment of it.
Mother Gina Alexander said her daughter has been working hard to prepare for the show.
“She really is loving it; she takes it all very seriously.”
With the performance coming up just in time for Christmas, dancers are busily preparing and putting in many hours to make sure their abilities are up to scratch.
“I am very excited. Jazlyn is hoping some of the younger kids like herself are asked to perform as they all put in a lot of time.”
Fundraising is in full swing and a ‘Sell-A-Thon’ was held at Sassi recently with a percentage of the sales donated to the ballet company.
A mammoth $1000 was contributed to production costs.
The Nutcracker will feature the talents of up to 100 local children who will perform alongside three stars of the national and international ballet arenas. This will be a magical experience for them as it is rare for regional children to have such an opportunity.
Local dance teacher and former professional ballerina Wendy Barker will take the helm as artistic director and expertly guide the children.
The Nutcracker ballet has a beautiful and enchanting story that is sure to delight audiences of all ages and will be presented to the community on December 5 and 6 at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre.
