Irish dancers bring home trophies from North Queensland

FOUR performers from the PCYC Irish Dancers recently returned home from Townsville with fantastic results, after competing at the North Queensland premierships on June 9.

Piper McDade placed third in the beginner seven years and under section, and received second place for her beginner reel and third in the light jig.

She also received fourth in the beginner single jig, fourth in the beginner slip jig and fifth in the primary slip jig.

Fellow dancer Olivia Tudman, who competed in the eight years section, received first in the primary slip jig (graded), second in the primary St Patrick's Day, fifth in the intermediate slip jig, and sixth in the intermediate treble jig.

Erin Murphy placed second in the beginner 12 years and over premiership, and received first for the beginner light jig and second for the beginner reel.

Erin also received second for her beginner single jig, fourth in beginner slip jig, fourth in beginner treble jig and second in the primary slip jig.

Sunni Dearden placed second in the primary 11 years and over premiership, and received second place for her primary treble jig, third for primary reel, second in beginner treble jig and third in primary St Patrick's Day.

Volunteer dance instructors Kylie Ware and Shelley Penrose said they were pleased with their students' results.

The pair were grateful to Colette Shields of Claddagh School of Irish Dance in Mackay for registering and mentoring their dancers.
