CONSERVATION Volunteers Australia's Gladstone group has taken up residence at CQUniversity's Gladstone campus.

Formerly located on Goondoon St, CVA moved to CQUniversity's marina campus in February, with a formal celebration during Volunteering Week last week.

Gladstone Independent MP Liz Cunningham welcomed the group to the new space, which has provided a friendly and more environmentally aware culture, according to CVA's Jodi Jones.

"We've got a nice outlook across the marina, and the environmental culture of the university is very embracing," she said.

Conservation Volunteers Australia run a number of programs that aim to conserve or restore natural ecosystems in the Gladstone region.

Setting up shop at CQUniversity makes sense for CVA, which collaborates with academics and teaching staff through a number projects.

These include a litter removal and catchment health project at Briffney Creek and Toad Busters, which sees volunteers collect cane toads in summer and deliver them to the university where they are used for teaching purposes.

Canoe Point, Reg Tanna Park in West Gladstone and the Botanical Gardens are three sites where CVA volunteers' work has paid off, with cane toad numbers reduced markedly according to Ms Jones.

Conservation Volunteers Australia can now be found at the Martin Hanson building at CQUniversity Gladstone campus.
