Currimundi pizzeria takes away top award

FAMILY run Currimundi pizzeria Italia Pizza and Pasta has been named the Best Queensland Takeaway Restaurant in the Menulog Tasty Takeaway Awards 2015.

Owners of the popular Nicklin Way pizzeria are Italian-born Guiseppe Skok and his wife Tamara, a qualified nutritionist.

Traditional Italian recipes "with a touch of spice" make the restaurant the go-to eatery in the Sunshine Coast area, Mrs Skok said.

"We produce the highest quality Italian pizza and pasta, which is made with 100% perfection and passion down to the final sprinkle of spice," she said.

"It's Guiseppe's knowledge of authentic Italian food that makes us stand apart."

Italia Pizza and Pasta's recipes come from Mr Skok's relatives in Italy - from Trieste in the north where his father grew up, and Calabria in the south where his mother was raised.

"Guiseppe grew up in pizzerias owned by many of his relatives, so knowing what is involved in producing a good pizza is ingrained in him," Mrs Skok said.

Mr Skok said from the outset the restaurant's focus had been on creating authentic, modern and delicious food.

"By keeping this as our focus, we produce the very best pizza and pasta," he said.

"My wife Tamara is a qualified nutritionist and makes sure all ingredients are fresh and local.

"This focus on quality and attention to detail means that after just three years of running the business, we have won the Menulog award."

The couple attribute their Menulog win to passionate and motivated staff and to their loyal customers.

Menulog spokeswoman Julia Snabl said that the fifth annual awards were entered by more than 5500 restaurants this year and attracted more voters than ever. Each Tasty Takeaway Awards state winner will receive a delivery scooter, as well as free marketing promotion to the value of $5000.

The awards had become the "standout event of the takeaway industry", Ms Snabl said.

"Foodies and take-away enthusiasts are eager for their local takeaway restaurant to be nationally recognised," she said.
