Crooner urges over 55s to enter Gladstone talent quest
GLADSTONE crooner Rob Hopkins will compete in the city's first senior talent quest, a potential shoo-in with years of experience.
"I've competed in country music festivals and shows for many years and I've won overall competition at many festivals," he said.
"I picked up a guitar when I was about six."
In an attempt to spice up Gladstone's entertainment scene, the Gladstone Regional Council and APLNG are organising the Senior Talent Stars Quest.
It's strictly for those over 55, although performances can be whatever the contenders desire.
And if modern entertainers like Betty White are any indication, the oldies pack some punch.
"This is a great opportunity for our older citizens to show their skills and inspire others in the process," judging panel chairman and local Councillor Ren Lanzon, said.
Mr Hopkins, 62, said the quest might get a few people back in the game.
"Make them pick up the guitar or get singing," he said.
