Crime, accidents hit Gladstone on Easter long weekend

SOME spent their long Easter weekend surrounded by friends, family and lots of chocolate treats.

But that wasn't the case for all.

Some chose to spend their holidays breaking the law, others spent the weekend in hospital.

Yesterday afternoon two motorists were involved in a collision around 4.30pm when a car turning right onto Larson and

Patterson St, West Gladstone, was involved in a collision with with a motorcyclist.

Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene. Ambulance paramedics worked on the motocyclist's injuries at the scene before transporting him to hospital around 5.30pm. He was reported to be in a stable condition at 6pm yesterday.

The driver of the car did not sustain any major injuries, and provided police information after the accident.

A group celebrating the holidays with a camping trip at the colosseum went horribly wrong when one intoxicated camper wandered away from the camp, into the bush around 1.30 am Sunday morning and did not return.

After an unsuccessful attempt at searching for the 18-year-old male, his friends called the police.
Police searched the area and at the first light of day called in the Rescue 300 helicopter to widen the search.

The male was located safe and well underneath a tree.

Earlier in the weekend on Saturday seven drivers tested positive to drugs between 2.30 pm that afternoon and just before midnight  when they were stopped by units from Calliope along the Dawson Hwy.

Saliva tests were sent away by police for further testing after the seven separate drivers tested positive to having drugs in their systems.

Police also intercepted two high range drink drivers yesterday, both returned a blood alcohol reading of more than three times the legal limit.

Midday Saturday police intercepted a Holden commodore ute on Third Ave, Theodore. The driver, a 48-year-old man recorded a reading of .178%.

Five hours later a 37-year-old man driving a Holden astra hatchback was intercepted by police and recorded .174%.

A 27-year-old woman intercepted by police in Banana was charged with low range drink driving after returning a reading of 0.54%. The Toyota land cruiser driver will attend court in the next month.
