Cricketers on the rise as rich list released

SHANE Watson is hot property - on the field and off.

The all-rounder pocketed an estimated $6 million last year to finish as Australia's highest earning cricketer, according to the Business Review Weekly's Top 50 sports earners list.

Watson's earnings were boosted by his Indian Premier League contract and sponsorship deals.

Aussie Test captain Michael Clarke was hot on Watson's heels, pocketing $5.5 million, with David Warner on $3.8 million.

While 11 cricketers featured in the Top 50, basketballer Andrew Bogut led the way with an estimated $16 million. US Masters winner Adam Scott was next on $15.5 million, with former Formula One driver Mark Webber third with $10 million.

Tennis player Samantha Stosur, one of only two women on the list, earned $1.8 million and surfer Stephanie Gilmour pocketed a lazy $1.5 million.
