Crash victim Anna loses fight for life

A BUNDABERG schoolgirl whose car smashed into a power pole in late March has tragically died in hospital almost two months after the incident.

Anna Webb, 17, has been in critical condition since the single-vehicle smash on March 25 but sadly died in hospital yesterday afternoon.

Bundaberg Christian College principal Paul Sterling paid tribute to Anna who was in her final year of high school.

"She was a lovely young lady," Mr Sterling said.

"Being in Year 12 she had the whole world ahead of her."

Mr Sterling had nothing but praise for the teenager who was the youngest of her family.

"She was very well-liked at college and throughout the wider community," he said.

"Anna was quite gifted in instrumental music."

The principal said the students were coping as well as could be expected but the situation was "difficult for them".

"Since the accident we've been doing what we can to support them," Mr Sterling said.

"The community at the Bundaberg Christian College - our staff and students - have a good rapport.

"We've been very well aware of their wellbeing."

Mr Sterling said the school community was thinking of Anna's family.

"Certainly our concern is for their emotional wellbeing and for that of our students and college community," he said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Anna's family."

Mr Sterling said the school had provided counselling for staff and students.

"Since the accident happened we have received incredible support from the churches in Bundaberg," he said.

"There's been incredible support from across Australia through our Christian schools network."

The fatal crash happened about 3.20pm on a Monday at Heidkes Rd, a short way down the road from the college.

Anna was trapped in the station wagon and had to be freed with the jaws of life before she was airlifted to Brisbane.

The crash is still under police investigation.
