Meet CQUni's billion dollar man who's at top of ladder

MICHAEL Renshaw says the business degree he completed at CQUniversity in Rockhampton sparked his interest in international business and the services sector.

His time on campus also brought to the fore his talents as a party host.

The combination of aptitude and social skills has helped lay the platform for an incredibly successful career.

Mr Renshaw has been appointed chief executive officer of Cardno, a leading professional infrastructure and environmental services company which has clients in Australia and overseas.

The firm employs 8200 staff, has about 300 offices and is delivering projects in more than 85 countries. It is listed on the ASX with a market capitalisation of more than $1.1 billion.

As CEO, Mr Renshaw has responsibility for all global group activities, including performance, profitability, growth, quality and technical development.

He has worked for 11 years with the company.

Before joining Cardno, Mr Renshaw was director of the trade division within the Department of State Development and in 1997 was general manager of Gladstone Area Promotion and Development.

He enrolled in the Bachelor of Business program and graduated with a business degree in 1992.

He secured a scholarship in CQUni's first intake year for the business school honours degree program, graduating with honours in 1993.

During his time at Rockhampton campus, Mr Renshaw was president of the residential college and a member of the student union.

He said the business degree kick-started his career.

"In addition to a great learning environment, I recall a lively social scene and have fond memories of organising some great parties."

Business programs are now available for mid-year entry. CQUniversity is hosting a mid-year online chat session on Thursday at http://www.cqu.edu.au.
