UPDATE 11:25AM: Police are continuing their search this morning for the man who sent CQUniversity staff and students into lockdown yesterday afternoon.

A QPS spokesperson said no arrests have yet been made in relation to the incident.


UPDATE 9:50AM: Police are yet to locate the man who sent CQUniversity into lockdown yesterday afternoon.

"No one has been arrested and no one has been charged as of yet," the QPS spokesperson said.


UPDATE 10pm: THE man wanted over the CQUniversity lockdown incident was still at large late Thursday night.

A police spokesman last night said the fugitive was last seen heading towards Berrill Lane and hadn't  been located at 9.45pm:

The spokesman said no one had been injured during the university incident and nothing stolen. 

"He was on the grounds of the University around 2.20-2.30pm this afternoon and when he was confronted by security staff, he jumped in the security vehicle.

"He jumped around a bit and was screaming before he jumped out of the window and ran off."

UPDATE 5.10PM: THE has been a report of a sighting of the man hiding in bushes near a creek bed close to Masters.

UPDATE 5PM: POLICE have revealed the man at the centre of today's university lockdown had attempted to steal a campus security guard's car.

A spokesperson from Rockhampton Police said the man had walked past the vehicle and tried to steal it, before the security guard "battled" with him.

They said the guard was successful in grabbing the keys and the man then fled the scene.

Additionally, a spokesperson from the Queensland Police Service said the man is known to police.

The spokesperson said the man was originally spotted near the child care centre at the university.

Police have indicated they have plans in place to catch the man, and hope to have him detained by tonight.


UPDATE 4.30PM: ROCKHAMPTON police are still searching for a shirtless man who caused a nuisance at CQUniversity earlier this afternoon.

The university's North Rockhampton campus was in lock down after the man ran screaming into one of the university's sheds.

Staff and students have now been given the all clear.


UPDATE 3.30PM: A university spokesperson said students and staff had now been given the all clear.

They said on some days up to1000 staff and students could be on campus.

It's believed police are still looking for the man who was causing a nuisance on campus. 

He is described as wearing no shirt, red shorts and possibly white Nike running shoes.

UPDATE 3.15PM: AN eye witness at the CQUniversity said police were chasing a man through nearby scrub.

The university's North Rockhampton campus was in lockdown.

The witness said the man came into one of the university sheds.

He ran into the campus, looking for a lift home and wanting water.

"He was wanting water, he wanted water really really badly," the eye witness said.

"He came into the grounds section screaming and yelling really loudly."

The witness said the supervisors on scene called police when they saw the man.

"The man started going into sheds…the second time they chased him out the police had arrived."

"After the police arrived the man had bolted into the scrub."

The witness said a couple of the boys working on the ground hopped on the light machinery and are helping the police look for the man. 

2.45PM: POLICE have confirmed there is a man at CQUni creating a public nuisance and sending the campus into lockdown. 

Police assured the community he was not armed, however it is believed he is under the influence of drugs and people are advised to stay away. 

Police are currently on scene and chasing the man.
