A CENTRAL Queensland boilermaker is suing his employer for almost $2 million after an accident at Ensham Mine near Emerald left him unfit to continue working in his trade.

After cutting a piece of steel at a workbench in the workshop, Dale Cameron Goody tripped on a wire feeder which had been placed on the floor behind him.

He tossed the L-shaped piece of steel he was carrying and fell heavily to the ground.

The accident, which happened in June, 2010, left Mr Goody with a fractured ankle.

Despite three surgical procedures, Mr Goody claims he continues to suffer pain which has left him medically unfit to continue working as a boilermaker.

The 27-year-old Gladstone man had only recently completed his apprenticeship at the time of the accident.

In a claim before the Supreme Court of Rockhampton, Mr Goody claims the accident and his subsequent injuries were caused by the negligence of his employer, UGL Operations and Maintenance Pty Ltd.

He is claiming damages of $1,987,899.93, including loss of future income and future medical expenses.

A spokesman for UGL said the company was unable to comment as the matter was before the court.

Mr Goody's solicitor also declined to comment.
