CQ bid pushes on as NRL expansion on hold for two years

CENTRAL Queensland will have to wait another two years before finding out if it gets its own NRL team.

Releasing its strategic plan yesterday, the ARL Commission said it wouldn't revisit the prospect of NRL expansion until the end of the 2014 season.

ARLC chairman John Grant said it was more important the code work to strengthen the position of the 16 current teams before committing to adding more clubs.

CQ NRL Bid chief executive officer Denis Keeffe said the announcement had been expected.

"Really, nothing has changed for us,'' he said.

"The end game for us is the NRL program in Central Queensland.''
