'Coward punch' on Stanthorpe policeman

A STANTHORPE policeman will require surgery after he was allegedly coward punched while attending a College Rd property at the weekend.

Police say a 38-year-old man had to be subdued with a Taser after he also punched another officer twice in face.

It is further alleged a search of the property located two firearms and a large amount of ammunition.

The Stanthorpe man has been charged with three counts of serious assault on police and one each of obstructing police and unlawfully possessing firearms.

The injured policeman is expected to be off work for several weeks.

The second police officer has returned to normal duties.
