Woman's criminal history goes from "0 to 100" in two years

A YOUNG woman whose life fell apart over the past two years was jailed, disqualified from driving and ordered to undergo regular drug tests when she appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Gympie Magistrate M. Baldwin told Peta Louise Wall her criminal history had "gone from zero to 100" in a "ridiculous" series of offences over a short time.

Wall, 24, pleaded guilty to six drug possession charges, six counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, four of disqualified driving, one of possessing a knife, charges of driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle with false plates, unlicensed possession of ammunition and five counts of breaching bail.

The charges involved disqualified driving in Kilkivan, Southside and Gympie, as well as cannabis, diazepam and methamphetamine possession, possession of a two pipes, a coffee grinder and a bowl used for drug consumption., glassware and ingredients used for amphetamine production and repeated failures to appear in court from April 2014 to last January 27.

Mrs Baldwin said Wall was "treading on thin ice".

The police prosecutor asked for "a clear deterrent custodial sentence" and said Wall had been "given every opportunity to remain in the community while these matters were dealt with."

She said Wall had "very little criminal history prior to a series of offences from 2014."

Duty solicitor Chris Anderson said Wall had after a while "buried her head in the sand" and kept committing offences.

She was concerned about going to jail but accepted it was unavoidable.

"What a mess you've got yourself into in a very short time," Mrs Baldwin remarked.

"Your (criminal) history has gone from virtually nothing"

She said Wall had been "too pathetically frightened" to face her situation.

"You could see it all unravelling when you should have called time."

She fined Wall, jailed her, disqualified her from driving for two years and ordered further jail sentences suspended for two years.
