Country living in Raglan attracts diverse range of people

IT'S Aussie country at its best. Raglan is a small rural town about 45 minutes from Gladstone.

With a small township to match, the area is actually quite spread out.

Elders Real Estate Calliope agent Diane McDonald said there are a diverse range of people who live in the town.

"Some are workers, some are retired couples looking for a quiet place to live and some use it as a base," she said.

She said in general, the town is fairly spread out with parts possibly going into the Rockhampton area.

Ms McDonald said the feel to the area revolves around a country-side atmosphere.

"You do find a lot of people who live there have lived there for years.

"There is no development at the moment," she said in relation to the quiet lifestyle.

For local stores, Mt Larcom or Rockhampton are the best places to stock up on shopping essentials.

Raglan resident Helen Creed said the country town has a large surrounding rural community.

"The community also has a local rifle range, QCWA and the Fly-In & Heritage Show held at The Old Station.

"Our family live and operate a beef cattle property just inland from Raglan on Langmorn Road."

Ms Creed said the family settled in the area in 1869 at The Old Station and as a fifth generation, they continue to earn a living from the land.

"Many rural families have resided in the Raglan district for many years," she said.

"Often raising a family and retiring here.

"We are lucky to have a great local primary school at Ambrose with a daily school bus service."

According to Australian Property Monitors, Raglan properties range from price, starting at $139,000 to $545,000.
