Country folk tough it out to repair after flood damage
SKYANN and Kelvin Peters moved to the Boyne Valley the day the last floods began.
Their 121-hectare property Hyblah is between Ubobo and Nagoorin.
Skyann says they are lucky. "There's not as much damage - less fencing to repair."
But much of their country was under water.
"That pump shed was completely under," she says.
"We had to swim the cattle across part of the gully."
Skyann says they will pull through. "We're country people."
Sonny Coogan moved his family out to the Valley last year.
The construction supervisor has been concentrating on fixing fences and restoring the water supply.
"It's astronomical," he says of the damage.
"This will put a dent in them (the graziers) for a long time. They work hard as it is just to make ends meet."
A visit to Leonie and Dave Paish's dairy is proof of that.
"We were just starting to get back on top. It's worse than ever," Leonie says.
