Council tightens its leash on dog registrations
DOG registration checks will be done across the Gladstone region early next year.
The annual six month inspection program will run from February 15 till August 12.
Gladstone Regional Council environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Col Chapman said they would give notice prior to the inspections in the paper and on the council's website.
"Council has a responsibility to enforce animal registration to achieve effective animal management."
As per the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 and Local Law No.2 (Animal Management) 2011, it is a legal requirement for the owner of any dog or cat over the age of 12 weeks, regardless of where they live in the region, to have their pet microchipped and registered.
It is highly recommended that any pet owner not currently meeting these requirements do so prior to the commencement of the Animal Inspection program.
