Council spends $260,000 on vacant blocks
GLADSTONE Regional Council will spend $260,000 on two blocks of New Auckland land.
Blocks 14 and 16 in Luscombe Court, adjacent to Lorikeet Park, will be purchased from the Department of Housing and Public Works.
There is no plan in place yet for use of the land.
Councillors decided to buy the blocks at their meeting on Tuesday.
Mayor Gail Sellers said the council had been interested in the blocks since they were identified as being surplus by the State Government earlier this year.
"The purpose of the purchase is simply for land banking at the moment, however, it will give council an opportunity to make changes to its road network to improve traffic flow if required in the future," Cr Sellers said.
"During the holding period, council will not incur any significant costs, nor will council be out of pocket if it decides to sell the land at a future point in time."
She said the council sought a valuation of the parcels of land prior to the $260,000 purchase ($130,000 for each block) before deciding it was good value for money.
