Council to hold auction to recoup unpaid rates

GLADSTONE Regional Council will auction a 139Ha Deepwater property this Friday to recoup unpaid rates in accordance with its Sale of Land policy.

The property, located at 544 Fingerfield Road, Deepwater, will be auctioned at the Miriam Vale QCWA Hall, 32 Blomfield Street, Miriam Vale, at 11am on Friday.

Council's Economic Development Strategy portfolio spokesperson Cr Karen Porter said the public auction of the large rural property was a necessary measure for Council.

"The auctioning of properties to recover rate arrears is a last resort, but a necessary one, as the arrears pose a financial burden to the Council and the Gladstone Region ratepayers who pay their rates on time," Cr Porter said.

"The Sale of Land for Recovery of Rate Arrears process, in accordance with the Local Government Act, commenced in November last year for 20 properties.

"Owners of 19 of those properties have since paid their arrears in full, but one remains unpaid and is now scheduled for auction."
