SPECULATION is rife that a landmark property sale in Toowoomba's most industrialised suburb could be the answer to our shopping prayers.

The 24.9 ha site is located off Rielly St in Torrington.

It was reportedly sold by Clive Berghofer for "millions" late last month.

Since its sale, The Chronicle has been contacted by several residents claiming it would be the site of Toowoomba's first Costco store.

However, those claims have been downplayed by industry sources.

They expect the new owners to subdivide the land into a mix of industrial and residential sites.

The sale of the land has yet to be formally finalised, according to property sales website rpData.
