Police hit planned fights that attracted about 200 youths

POLICE officers took about 90 minutes to break up a large group of youths in Springfield on Thursday night.

Several police crews from across the district found the group fighting, initially at Orion Shopping Centre and then in Robelle Domain Parklands.

Some reports claimed up to 200 youths formed the group.

Several wanted to continue fighting but no charges were laid.

The fights appeared planned and police had warnings the fights were to occur.

Police warned youths and parents of "serious consequences if involved in unlawful assaults including injuries, jail, fines, travel restrictions, hefty compensation payments and losses of job opportunities".
