Cookbook queen shares tips
HEALTHY eating and shiftwork aren't always two things that go together.
Last week low-fat cookbook author Annette Sym shared her healthy eating tips with Rio Tinto Alcan staff in a private workshop.
Ms Sym demonstrated how to prepare a three-course meal with less than 8g of fat.
Ms Sym said she wanted to build understanding of how to make healthier take away choices and manage portion control.
"Portion sizes have been dramatically up-sized in recent years, so this will be a bit of a reality check," Ms Sym said.
General Manager of Rio Tinto Alcan Yarwun, Mike Dunstan, said the healthy eating workshop was organised by the company's Health, Safety and Environment Committee in a bid to promote a healthier workforce.
"We have a lot of shiftworkers and staff in manual roles, so it's really important for them to be physically fit and mentally alert from a safety perspective," he said.
Ms Sym said she was pleased to see companies becoming more proactive about improving workforce health.
"It's not only a positive experience for staff; employers can also benefit from a boost in team morale," she said.
