A DRIVE around the Gladstone region shows that some people have spent the greater part of this year preparing and designing their home's Christmas light show.

Almost 90 households took part in this year's Observer Christmas Lights Competition, which was sponsored by Yaralla Sports Club and Gladstone Regional Council.

The overall competition winner this year was a fabulous display at 1 Dedekind Ave, Benaraby.

This entry has a multitude of different features based around an elevated cubbyhouse, which has been extensively decorated.

It was the result of months of toil by the Barnett family, all of whom took part in the creation. All elements of the display were created by family members, including the computer-controlled relays and switches.

Runner-up, for the second time, was the Butcher family, at 25 Katrina Blvd in New Auckland. Theirs was a stunning display, which blended with others in the street.

People's choice was the Anderson family's effort at 15 McCann St, South Gladstone, and the online winner was Zac Shereff at 7 BauhiniaSt in Kin Kora.
