Confusion regarding crossroads

THE furore over funding for the Calliope crossroads upgrade is warming up.

Member for Flynn Chris Trevor yesterday called on Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey to confirm the LNP's commitment to funding $55 million for the vital Calliope Crossroads upgrade once and for all.

Mr Trevor said Mr Hockey should clear up the confusion regarding the LNP's stance on the crossroads project and announce the LNP's commitment while he was in Gladstone.

“Only two weeks ago we had the Leader of the National Party, Warren Truss, stating that the LNP will not commit to the project until at least 2014,” he said.

“But according to reports in today's Gladstone Observer the LNP candidate has confirmed that under the LNP the project will go ahead.

“Today I'm calling on Mr Hockey to end the confusion and state clearly what the LNP's intentions are for this vital piece of infrastructure for local residents.

“Is their leader Warren Truss correct and will the funding be delayed or not funded at all; or is the LNP candidate correct and can residents expect the project to go ahead under an LNP government?” Mr Trevor said.

“Local residents deserve to know and it's time for Mr Hockey to end the charade,” Mr Trevor said.

Mr Hockey confirmed full funding for the Calliope Crossroads if elected.
