Proserpine man caught with 24,000 child porn photos

WHEN Proserpine man Bradley James Geering's mother took his computer to a store for repairs, the technician spotted something untoward.

Geering, now aged 40, had a total of 24,672 images of child pornography saved on his computer.

The photos were reported to police on September 24, 2013.

Geering pleaded guilty to possessing child exploitation material in the District Court in Mackay on Thursday.

Crown prosecutor Gavin Webb said when interviewed, Geering had told police the downloads were "accidental".

Defence barrister Stephen Byrne said that Geering had downloaded adult pornography, and the child pornography images had come as part of the download.

He said Geering believed that he'd deleted the child pornography images.

Judge Paul Smith accepted that submission.

He said Geering's aunt had written a reference, saying he was "not a bad person, just misguided".

Geering's mother and aunt appeared in the public gallery in his support.

Judge Smith said the man appeared to "live a lonely existence" and had difficulties forming relationships with women.

The judge said Geering possessed some "serious" category four and four images.

After spending six weeks in prison, Geering will be released on probation for two years.

A conviction was recorded.
